17 USA Day 6 : Leave for Capitol Reef . This is a 900-foot high rock barrier extending 20 miles that overlooks the Fremont River . The rocky strata, deformed by the vertical thrust of the Colorado plateau 65 million years ago, eroded and gave the landscape its present day appearance. Lunch (full board) before continuing to Antimony . Arrival at a ranch in the afternoon where you can take advantage of the activities offered. Dinner and overnight. Day 7 : Today, the drive is beautiful crossing the plains to Bryce Canyon , one of the most scenic natural parks of Utah. The Mormons discovered this site in the 19th century. The dazzling shapes and shades of the stone of memorable Pink Cliffs constantly vary from dawn to dusk. Continue to Moab via one of the most panoramic routes of the United States, crossing through the Dixie National Forest . Lunch en route. Afternoon stop at Dead Horse Point , a promontory dominating the Colorado River that can be reached by trail. The view of Canyonlands and the Colorado is spectacular. Dinner (full board) and overnight in Moab . Day 8 : Visit Arches National Park in the morning, with its arid and austere landscape, where you can find over 2,000 natural arches of various shapes and sizes resulting from erosion of red and gold sandstone. Continue to Colorado. Lunch. Mid-afternoon visit of Mesa Verde , a park devoted to the archeological remains of the Ancestral Puebloan civilization dating from the beginning of the Christian era. Lunch followed by a tour of this park with more than 4,000 dwellings, some in rocky alcoves high above the canyons. The largest and most spectacular are around Chaplin Mesa: Cliff Palace and Spruce Tree House, with a group of cave dwellings. Dinner (full board) and overnight in Mesa Verde Park. Day 9 : Continue Mesa Verde visit, then leave for Monument Valley , where you will find yourself surrounded by dark red hills. This 25 mile-long by 16-mile wide desert plain overflows with gigantic sandstone monoliths rising high above the valley. Lunch of Navajo specialties followed by a visit of this imposing area where numerous western movies have been filmed. Optional jeep tour with Navajo Indians. Dinner (full board) and overnight in Chinie . Day 10 : Morning drive to Chelly Canyon in the middle of the great Arizona Navajo reserve to see ruins of Indian villages on wall caves. Lunch (full board). Afternoon visit of the Petrified Forest . This site is the result of a long process: silica crystallized into quartz where tree trunks were preserved as petrified wood. Today, the wind and water continue to carry away sediments, causing buried trees to surface. Dinner and overnight in the Grand Canyon . Day 11 : Morning drive to Grand Canyon , a superb geological phenomenon. This is most certainly one of the highlights of your trip. Lunch and walk along the South Rim to see one of the most beautiful and awe-inspiring wonders in the world. The Grand Canyon is the result of millions of years of wind and water erosion, an endless expanse of shapes, colors and impenetrable shadow. The Colorado River flows over a mile below the canyon rim. It is possible to organize an optional scenic helicopter tour of the canyon. Afternoon drive to Las Vegas, the gaming capital of the world, glittering like a mirage in the desert. Dinner (full board) and overnight at the flamboyant Circus Circus Hotel on the Las Vegas Strip . Day 12 : This morning, cross the Nevada desert on the way to Pahrump and Shoshone . On arriving in California, you descend to impressive Death Valley approximately 320 feet below sea level. This area is so hot and desolate that the first cowboys who ventured here described it as “no stream to drink from, no tree to hang from”. You will discover Badwater Point , the lowest spot in the valley, Furnace Creek , and the Stovepipe sand dunes. Lunch before returning to Las Vegas in the afternoon. Dinner (full board) and overnight in Las Vegas . Day 13 : Free time in the morning. Meet at the hotel for your transfer to the airport and return flight.
