As beings that have evolved in sensory dialog with nature, this loss results not only in psychic numbing, but also in an inability to perceive and connect with the world around us. Therefore, we can understand sustainability as the process of directly perceiving ourselves and our proper place in the biosphere. The choices we make now will have long-term impact on the future.
