13 Introduction Sustainability Professional — This certificate demonstrates a high-level understanding of today’s primary sustainability issues, such as sustainable agriculture, climate change science, the global water crisis, renewable and non-renewable energy sources, the global ecosystem, humanity’s ecological footprint, and the importance of biodiversity. This certificate is comprised of the GEF Institute course: Core Concepts in Sustainability located in Units 2-5 of Principles of Sustainability . Note that completing the course requirement for the Apprentice Certificate (Unit 1) is a prerequisite. Sustainability Fellow— This certificate denotes a robust and comprehensive understanding of sustainability topics including the economics of sustainability, government and sustainabil- ity, sustainable development, new technology and innovative sustainability approaches, sustainable design, and the emerg- ing sustainability mindset. This certificate is comprised of the GEF Institute course: Advanced Concepts in Sustainability located in Units 6-10 of Principles of Sustainability . Note that completing the course requirements for the Apprentice and Professional Certificates (Units 1-5) are prerequisites for earn- ing this certificate. GEF Institute certificates verify a comprehensive knowledge of important sustainability topics. Earning a certificate boosts credibility and demonstrates a commitment and proficiency in sustainability concepts, important to both higher educa- tion institutions and employers. Institute certificates provide the education necessary to develop and foster a sustainability driven mindset while enhancing knowledge of important sus- tainability concepts and initiatives.
