Math in Motion A student records transportation costs of using a rideshare service on some days and paying for parking when driving a personal vehicle on other days. On certain days, both options are used. To manage expenses, the student models the daily cost of each method using separate functions, one for ridesharing and one for parking. By combining these functions, it becomes easier to understand and manage a weekly transportation budget. The rideshare service costs and parking fees can be modeled by the following functions: ● Rideshare service costs: R(x): 10x + 2x2 for x days ● Parking fees per day: P(x): 40 + 5x for x days 1. Write a new function, T(x), for the total transportation cost if both methods are used on the same day. 2. Use T(x) to determine the total transportation costs after 2 days. 3. Use T(x) to determine the total transportation cost after 5 days. 4. Suppose that the student only uses transportation 3 days pers week and wants to plan for several weeks. a. Write a new function, W(n) = T(3) • n, where n is the number of weeks. First calculate T(3), then write and simplify W(n). b. Interpret what W(n) represents and how it could help with budgeting.
